Book Review - The Thin Man (Dashiell Hammett)

I read this on holiday, enjoyed it as a great period piece, but I think it was otherwise dull. Mostly what I remembered was enough drinking to make my liver ache by proxy, and a big chunk of info on Alfred Packer which i greatly enjoyed. It reminded me of Sin City, but I didn't actually enjoy it as much. Apparently "Red harvest" is much better - I'll give that a try at some point.

In other news, book club is still good and I have yet to want to kill anyone (and I'm not just saying that to cover my tracks because I know they might be reading). Long may this last. I will write off my bad goth experience in Exeter and embrace my dark side ;)

Then I got utterly crucified by the pretty-goth clique at Exeter when I was at uni and it left a bad taste in my mouth.

Ah yes. It was a good thing I'd been a goth for a long time before I moved to Manchester, because there were more than a few people on the scene there that were like that. As it was, I was just horrible back to them, something that had clearly never happened before (I think I was supposed to burst into tears or something).

You probably were supposed to cry, yes. They mostly seemed to thrive on high drama. At 19 I was a bit of a sensitive flower to be honest, so it put me off. These days I'm a little more doughty so I thought I'd give a try to what actually sounded like an excellent book club.
