Never did do an update for the weekend

Oh well - not a lot happened. My brother and his GF came over for the Friday night and we played some games, watched some comedies, ate some pizza and generally talked rubbish. Also had a word with him about last weekend's fiasco, pointing out that I just don't have the time, interest or energy to deal with people who mess me about.

Which is true - these days life seems very short and there are many people I'm very fond of. Both online and in real life. There are barely enough hours in the day to be friends with myself and with all these pleasant, positive people. So why waste time on things you know are a dead-end for all those involved? It sounds a bit harsh, I know, but life is just too damn short :)

Spent the rest of the weekend chilling out. Watched "Henry V" on video - I'll (hopefully) be studying this next year. Think I got to grips with the plot - king invades France and kills a lot of people so that he can dink a chick :P I'm being supremely lazy at the moment - hopefully tomorrow I can catch up on some sleep!

Ooo, which version of Henry V - The Branagh version is ace 'cos its got Brian 'Play KINGS and MOUNTAIN CLIMBERS' Blessed in :)

Yeah - it was the Branagh version, and was surprisingly good. I was disappointed, though, at the lack of BEARDS and SHOUTING - I thought both of those would have been a cert, bearing in mind the presence of Brian Blessed in the cast ;)

Ahhhhhhh, but he does get to be insulting/threatening at the Dolphin, and then the look of joy on his face in the battle scene is a beauty :)

Ahhh - FIGHTING! Shame they didn't get him into LOTR somewhere, really :)

Oooo, now that would have been good...

There's room yet... perhaps as Prince of Dol Amroth, wading in to turn the battle on the Pelennor..

Demand Blessed in LotR now! Refilm, you swines, refilm!

Heheh - or a woefully miscast Angmar :)

Hmmmmmmm....

I really cant see him on the bad guys side tbh.. he'd have made a good Theoden perhaps, or maybe Eomer..

Best part about the Branagh Henrv V is that Richard "I'm so smug because I get to play alongside Felicity Kendal" Briers gets hung.

Yes - that's one part of history that doesn't get re-enacted enough IMO :)

*grin*

He's actually a pretty decent actor, but yes, take that you organicly self-sufficient swine!

Dear me ! There'll be an English teacher along in a minute.

  • Henry doesn't "Kill a lot of people". He kills very few people, and only when he absolutely has to. This is an early sighting of the British spirit of Fair Play in military propaganda. Dresden ? They just wouldn't stop making those bloody figurines you know - we had to do it.

  • Saying he did it "to dink a chick" is like saying that Oedious wanted to sleep with his mother. There was a flame-war with the French. The dauphin gets whacked. Any surplus chicks discovered afterwards are a complete surprise. And he had absolutely no idea it would turn out to be Emma Thompson

Heheh - now you've destroyed my razor sharp critique. I was hoping to wing my way through many essays on the back of that, neatly sidestepping the fact that:

    (a) my knowledge of military history is something along the lines of people painted themselves blue and wielded pointy sticks, then the US nuked Japan. Current weapons look vaguely to me like they should be illegal :)

    (b) my knowledge of political/social history ends at the Anglo-Saxons. The next thing I'm aware of is Tudors and that Henry definitely did just do stuff to get chicks ;)

Bah, he does it sieze his rightful lands and titles, and restore France to its rightful place - as a county of England :O

And then has the archers murder all the frog nobles 'cos his knights are too hung up on ransoms to actually kill them!

Huzzah! Class war for winners :)

Heheh - I did like that aspect of it. And I think they could have made more of the sneaky "sharpened poles and bogs" tactic :)
