What I want for Christmas

A treble recorder.
The recorder books I had when I was little.
No more work.
Amazon to send me my fucking computer game. Now.

Treble recorders yay!!

Which books did you have when you were little? I picked up the recorder from The School Recorder Book 1 - it was enough to teach me to read music and play the thing all by myself :) I still have that book and it is v. precious to me!

[identity profile] cybermule.livejournal.com 2006-12-20 11:53 am (UTC)(link)
I'm getting well back into mine, so I fancied a cheapy treble. Well, I fancy all of them. Especially now I don't have to save up my pocket money :))

I had that book too - it's the red one, right? The ones I wanted were the "... for the recorder" series. Like "Beatles songs for the recorder" etc. They were a matching set with bright covers with a recorder on.

If you're going to get a plastic recorder, get a Yamaha. They are amazing instruments which knock the spots off the cheaper (£100-150) wooden recorders :)

Some of my friends bought me a Pop Hits for recorder book for Christmas, which came with a CD of backing tracks!!! It is so funny. You can play Tatu's "All The Things She Said", and everything :D

Are the yamahas the brown and cream ones?

[identity profile] tonibunny.livejournal.com 2006-12-20 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, along with lots of other makes of plastic recorders. Brown and cream has been traditional ever since Carl Dolmetsch started producing bakelite/plastic recorders to teach kiddies on in the early 20th century :) Yamaha do lovely "woodgrain" effect ones too, in rosewood and ebony, which actually look really nice - I have a rosewood effect descant. Look for the 500 series, which is the top of the range, as they do lots of other plastic recorders for kiddies.

The Yamaha recorders are spot-on intonation wise, whereas the Dolmetsch and Aulos recorders (which are the other two popular makes) can be a bit dodgy and don't have such a nice tone.

I may have a treble recorder that you can have if I find it. I think it's a Yamaha, but I could be wrong. I had a nostalgic fit a couple of years ago and got hold of a descant, a bass, and I'm pretty sure I got a treble too. I'll see if I can dig it out, if it exists at all!

Heh, I've still got my School Recorder Book 1 too :D

And if you fancy getting together and playing together, I'd love that :)

[identity profile] cybermule.livejournal.com 2006-12-20 12:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool - I'd love it, chick! I'll swop ya for that violin I've got lurking about.

Also a go on the bass would be fantastic - never got a go on one of those. We'll have to get together in the New Year and play.

[identity profile] tonibunny.livejournal.com 2006-12-20 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Hooray! More people getting together to play recorders. This is v. good, you must do it! :D

I shall endeavor to get in the lost this weekend, see if I can rustle up some woodwind :)
Swoppsies...**grins**...reminds me of Multicoloured Swap Shop, remember that? :D

amazon havn't done as badly for me as (for example) dabs.
fingers crossed that the game will be waiting for you when you get home, or thereabouts :)

[identity profile] cybermule.livejournal.com 2006-12-20 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not even marked as dispatched. I'm mainly irate as I suspect they're stringing me along, and despite me ordering in October, they've sold all their stock. Which I wish they'd just be honest about.

[identity profile] cybermule.livejournal.com 2006-12-20 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry - that was my vaguely peeved response. Work sucks, I still have to shop for my mum, and Zelda's not arrived.

But other than that, merry christmas. Yo ho ho :D

[identity profile] malcygoff.livejournal.com 2006-12-20 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
hehe, I clearly suck at teh online - I didn't see your last reply as overly peeved. Justified given how they're messing you about. Did you want me to call of the Molotov Cocktail that I've arranged for their UK office then? ;-)

Do you know what you're going to get for your mum? I've still struggling with a few family members. I'm tempted to buy them all some Olbas oil and Kalms! heh

Right - Merry Christmas right back at ya! :-D

[identity profile] cybermule.livejournal.com 2006-12-20 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably wasn't that peeved, just felt it was more grumpy than was actually justified by just being a late delivery. Molotov them anyway, though - I've just cancelled the order.

Got my mum a DVD and some tiger balm. No point getting her anything much, as she only ever requests large bottles of vodka. Which I'm not buying her. I have to do her food shopping though, which I'm dreading.

[identity profile] malcygoff.livejournal.com 2006-12-20 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I clearly spacked up re: the shopping for your mum, thought you meant for Christmas. Having to do the grocery run for her is a bit of a different matter. :-/

I'm tempted to buy the last couple of people on the list bottles of vodka. Empty ones mind you... :-D

Does the local Game shop have Zelda in? I saw a copy of it there last night, but I wasn't quite paying enough attention to know if it was the right one for you - sorry hon :(

[identity profile] cybermule.livejournal.com 2006-12-20 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it was fair to assume that I was buying my mum's present :) As opposed to having to do her bloody food shopping.

That sounds like the sort of gift you caould make yourself.

Which game shop was it?

[identity profile] malcygoff.livejournal.com 2006-12-20 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
it was the one in the mall - might be worth a phone call I guess (0117 9509292).

[identity profile] cybermule.livejournal.com 2006-12-20 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Thx - they've been elevated to plan B due to the unfortunate demise of the original Plan A.

What I want is for that crazy old savings and loan to be saved from bankrupcy by a spate of donations from wellwishers and friends, then everyone singing together by the christmas tree as happy smiling children with misty eyes look on in wonder, and a tinkling little bell that means an apprentice angel gets his wings...

*sniff*

But yes, Amazon should send us that fucking game. Right now. Dammit.

[identity profile] cybermule.livejournal.com 2006-12-20 01:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Amazon blew it. I got it off someone else - as soon as I get the dispatch confirmation from them, I'm cancelling the order. It's not the lateness, it's the suspected dishonesty.

[identity profile] 0ct0pus.livejournal.com 2006-12-20 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh - Amazon basically pwned Christmas last year - and they have been falling over trying to get things to people in time this year as the demand has been so high. Could turn out nasty for them. Parcelforce have been in the same boat, apparently.

Maybe actual shops could be the way forward one day soon?

[identity profile] cybermule.livejournal.com 2006-12-20 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah - real shopping for me next year. ALthough I did order this back in October.

Amazon suck.

[identity profile] dandelion-wings.livejournal.com 2006-12-20 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
that is awful that you didn't get the game already. i can't wait to see nollie's face tomorrow night when he opens his----and then i get to tell him that a friend wayyyyyy across the ocean has one, too :)
