Childhood thoughts - 1

This was supposed to be part of the "make me post stuff" meme, as tagged by Boglin. But I realised it would be a long post, and so I never got around to it.

Now I've got a sproglet of my own, every day makes me remember stuff about my childhood, so I'm just going to blog it as it comes.

So today it's all about singing. I heard "the Runaway Train" on a children's CD yesterday, and it reduced me to tears - in my mind, it's reminiscent of van journeys with my dad. He'd always sing that (and ten green bottles and others) and it stuck in my head. He was always singing and listening to music - he got that off his mum, I think, and I do it tofor Ben.

I was mostly close to my Dad. My mum was a great mum up until I was about 8. Then she turned nasty and I mostly hung out with my Dad. Story for another day, I reckon.

But singing is good. Especially when you're supposed to talk to your kids, but you always feel a bit of a lemon doing so :) Health visitor advice isn't geared at the introvert.

Yep, singing with kids is great. What's even better is when they sing for you...you have that to look forward to in a couple years :D

I agree with [livejournal.com profile] gwyn_hwyfar -- it's even better when they start singing to you. :) Jazzy belts out Miley Cyrus and Jonas Brothers songs from her Ipod now, it's awesome.

I loved it when the girls started school, and would learn all sorts of cute songs in music class...then sing them for me in the car. Now they just make me put their mix CDs in the player. *is wistful*
