Even the battle scenes were good, and normally I hate that "poking people with swords" stuff. I think my favourite battling bits were when the Rohirim all charged yelling "death", when Eowyn stabbed Angmar (although that was spoiled by the twonks behind me having a loud chat - first time I've ever cussed someone out in a cinema), and when Gandalf was fighting on the battlements with his sword and staff.

Aragorn was ace, expecially when he went and raised the dead armies. I loved the oliphaunts, and the way it started with Smeagol and Deagol was brilliant. I think my favourite scene was when Pippin was singing to Denethor as Faramir was charging to his death *sniffle*. And they put in the departure to the Grey Havens, at which point tears were openly flooding down my face.

I'm going to watch it again soon, at which point I can probably describe more than an over-excited babble :p Only two bad things - nothing to look forward to next year, and no chance of my ever being valiant in heroic battles :( Talking of which, Eowyn definitely rules. Not Arwen.

late edit: the beacons were very neat too. Dammit - I just have to go and see it again!

In other news, I got some tickets to see Dylan Moran in Warwick in April. Quite a long way away, but never mind. Had a great lunch with my friend yesterday at some posh little restaurant in Clifton. Slept a lot. Can't wait until Christmas comes and I get some time off. And the days only get longer from here on.

Glad you enjoyed it :)

I think I'l have to get the soundtrack, especially if its got Pippins song in; that was really good. And very, very sad :S

'Today will be a sword day, a day of red ruin. Death! Death!!DEATH!!!'

See, Theoden knows it's coming and he cannot avoid it; so the only recourse is to charge screaming and hope your enemies choke to death trying to digest your body :D

Yeah - I'm tempted by the soundtrack too. And Theoden was pretty cool - could have got way too hammy. I keep remembering new bits, like the beacons. Off to see it again tomorrow, methinks.

Good thinking Batwoman!

Ah yeah - I'm good at thinking these up. Like spending my half day today watching the first two films back-to-back on DVD. And obviously consuming red wine by the gallon.

Now that would be cool...

I think it's a plan for tomorrow :)

*Gloating time*

Your stoic Elrond-boy was OPENLY sniffling at the end :p

[identity profile] cybermule.livejournal.com 2003-12-22 11:16 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmph. I didn't see that, and I can only imagine that those weren't so much tears as getting a very manly and taciturn something in his eye at an inopportune moment. And at least he made it to the end :p

be quiet

Nah, he had the 'happy wedding sniffles', even if it wasn't a wedding.

[identity profile] cybermule.livejournal.com 2003-12-23 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
He did not :P I'm off to see it again tonight, so I'll check ;)

[identity profile] cybermule.livejournal.com 2003-12-24 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Did not - he was just trying not to yack at the sickliness of it all :p

[identity profile] framlingem.livejournal.com 2003-12-24 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, yeah... believe what you want...

when you go see it again... remember that first scene after the flashback when gollum is arguing with himself? okay, next time you watch it pay close attention to his pupils the whole time. it's really fascinating how they change when he's morphing from gollum into smeagol.

it's great though! i wish they hadn't changed so many of eowyn's lines when she's facing the witch king. i've seen it five times.

Oh - I saw that bit. It's very cool indeed. I'm so glad they put the whole Smeagol/Deagol section in. And yeah, I guess a few bits were changed. I'll probably get a better idea when I see it again tomorrow :)
