This game is really growing on me. I had difficulty with the social aspects to start with - you have to make lots of friends and build lots of kudos, as opposed to skulking in your sim-house reading sim-books.

So having got into it, I now have a burning question. Does anyone know if Sims can form same sex relationships? I've been trying to get friendly with a female sim, and it seems that being romantic is an option, but she keeps rebuffing me.

So I was wondering if Sims was a strictly hetero environment, or whether I just had the wrong accessories :)

Yes - your sims can indeed "gay up". In Sims 1 on the PC they called it "asking someone to move in" and "having a house mate" but they were fooling no-one!

Cool - thanks! I've not really explored the game too much, so I wasn't sure how liberal it was! Now I know I'm not wasting my effort.

Simulated his own living conditions in The Sims. Apparently in the game he hooked up with his roommate in a homo relationship. Cracked him up...

The Sims 1 manual was actually pretty upfront about it, or at least, recent versions of it. I think the idea was that you couldn't marry because, well, gay couples couldn't marry, but in the new version you can at least get engaged, and you could, and still can, adopt kids. There were user-made objects, for the first one, too, to let you marry. As well as ones that let the little characters have all sorts of really graphic sex.

My Sims (Sims2) are nearly all gay. I'm not sure why - it just worked out like that.

(I also have a hack which allows same-sex couples to have genetic children!)
