Sooo... what did I do with the weekend?

Well, I bought a coat. Or more specifically, a waterproof coat. Believe it or not, this native Britlander hasn't owned a waterproof coat in 15 years. Combine that with the tendency to find umbrellas irritating, and I often find myself getting wet. But this year, I plan to do more hiking, and getting wet will piss me off, so I bought a black Peter Storm waterproof jacket. I fondly believe that wearing it with black jeans, high black boots and a chinese-style shirt makes it look eccentrically chic ;)

I did a huge chunk of translation on Beowulf, which was hard work - had to keep looking up every single word. But it got better as I went through, and when I read the Seamus Heaney translation, I'd defintely got the gist, even on the first fairly fast attempt.

Went to see 21 Grams, and it was brilliant. Despite some boring sex scenes :p I won't ruin anything by describing it in much detail, but it really made me think. It was thought provoking in the same serious and sad way as "Requiem for a Dream", although I found it less emotionally grinding. Hmm. Without it being less emotional. Which is a subtle achievement, although maybe only works for me personally. It was Memento-esque in its handling of time. I guess that's becoming familiar now, but this one didn't over-Tarantinoise. The characterisation and acting was good, and I was kind of reminded of a Western in many ways. Probably just because one of the actors looked like a Sergio Leone character, and there were three circling protagonists. And it just made me think about some things that were greater than the movie itself.

I had a really good walk yesterday, with sun and sparkling water. I took some photos, so I might post them up on the website soon, along with the long neglected pictures of North Devon.

Tidied the place up a bit - I had no clean plates or cups, as they seemed to habe migrated under the bed.

Spent this afternoon chilling with my brother. We got some delicious lemon and coriander hummus from Sainsbury's, and a bargainous fruit tart, so we had a munch-fest and watched Donnie Darko. My brother loves it too, and we ended up talking about electron spins. Never done that before :)
