cybermuleSeems I got the last day of summer yesterday, when I went to Hidcote. The garden is beautiful, and Ben was well behaved in his sling, which was a bonus. Also got a glimpse of Hailes Abbey and had a cream tea.
The weekend seemed to be mostly spent driving up and down the Welsh valleys. We went in search of sea swimming on Saturday, and took a vast detour via the Abergavenny Food Festival. Barry Island sucks (no parking), Lavernock Point is pretty, but wild and scary. Penarth was actually quite pleasant, but the pub wouldn't give us any food.
Sunday I went back up the Cynon valley to a hotel spa near Merthyr Tydfil. Despite that unprepossessing description, it was lovely. I swam loads, went in the bubbly pool, ate well, and most importantly got a full night's sleep. It took me 5 hours to get home though due to the mega-crash on the M4 at Newport.
