Does anyone know where I could find the prices of computer monitors about two years ago?

I would probably call up a local computer store, but you might be able to find something like that online at Pricewatch.

Ooo - thanks. I didn't think of real life checking, and hadn't had much luck online, but I'll go check out that link.

Net based, possibly those sites that take a copy of the internet as it changes (buggered if I can remember the name!), and then check Scan etc from a couple of years back?

Archive.org!
And if you know of others, I'd love to hear about them. It's good, but not perfect.

Good plan - thanks! I'm on a mission to prevent my IT department from replacing my nice 21" with a piece of cheap dross.

Aha - thanks! I should have remembered that site from the conference I went to yesterday :P If I find any more, I'll pass them on...

Thank you! I couldn't remember for the life of me...

Off hand I don't know of anything on a similar scale, but there's a lot of people store things, often for freedom of information issues. The memoryhole is one such..

IIRC they were one of the groups to catch the Whitehouse out over editing it's archives on Iraq..

*puts on IT Dept. Nazi hat*

Is it vital? Do you really need it? You could be looking at non-company related materiel or working with a temptation like that! We have to takeit away for your own good..

Heheh. That would be about right. It was one of those "pointless upgrade" exercises, where we have some spare money to spend before the end of the year, else we lose it. So obviously the best thing to do is to replace all the quality equipment with some naff shite.

*sigh*

Think it's sorted now - I just went to make a fuss at the head of IT.

I know the feeling.. I think the councils got the same problem here. Come end of march you can't drive on the roads 'cos they are full of holes and blocked by navvies aimlessly wandering around drinking tea..

Yeah - I know that one too, from living in Devon. In summer the roads were clogged with tourists. Winter was their only opportunity to pointlessly dig them up :P
