Nope, sorry - I hate that book...

...Kathy!
...Heathcliff!
...whine, whine, whine!

The semaphore version is good, though ;)

Talking of books, today I finished Great Expectations, one of the books for "the course that never was" (see yesterday's posts). It was OK, especially as I'm not a Dickens fan. I liked the characterisation of the main character - the way Pip described himself in such an unconsciously hyporcritical way was so amusingly true-to-life - you could see the conceitedness of his good opinions bursting through in the way he spoke, and I thought that was well done. I thought many of the other characters were fairly one-dimensional though - if Joe Gargery said "ever the best of friends, us was Pip" once more, I was going to throw the book out of the train window! :P I was fond of Magwitch, though, and got quite teary when he died. It's been my least favourite of the four novels I have to read - I far preferred both Pride and Prejudice and Fathers and Sons

Back to crunching photos....

What Classic Movie Are You? (http://similarminds.com/othertests.html)

I thought Great Expectations was OK as well when I read it in high school. I liked a lot of other Dickens better. Actually I liked Jane Eyre better as well. Haven't read Pride and Prejudice or Fathers and Sons though. Not my favorite genre of books.

Of course I've read a few greek plays, and things like Faust and the Divine Comedy so I may be a weird person to talk to about reading material. Especially since I don't remember much about things I've only read once (which most of these are). Next book on my list is Walden.

Have fun crunching photos, though I always found photos to be quite chewy....

Mmm - photos stick between your teeth and cause gum lacerations. I know these things...

Your reading tastes seem pretty fine to me :)

I have that problem with 3x5 cards. Really need to stop chewing on my notes...

Heh, Techincally I read Faust in the original German and Divine Comedy in the original Italian. Understood about a third of the German and none of the Italian, but fun trying to pronounce the words.

OK, how about Grisham, Clancy, VC Andrews, Robert Jordan (or his numerous pseudonyms), Eddings, Hicks & Weiss..

Or of course random encyclopedias, dictionaries, desk references, textbooks...

Ah - an obsessive-compulsive reader, then?

a little bit yeah...

moreso in the past than now. I only read about 5 or 6 books a year now when I used to read 2 or 3 a month.

That's the problem with growing up... less time to read...

Agreed - less reading time is bad. However, one of the good points of being an adult is you can now read at the table :)

Hey, my mom used to make me read at the table (granted not during dinner time). I'm happy cause since I became an adult I could read in bed! Much more comfy than a ladderback dinner chair...

Heheh - it's the one thing my parents were strict on. Although they used to let my bro watch TV... hmmm... that's actually quite outrageous! ;)

'Ever the best of friends, us was Heathcliff' ;)

I actually haven't read Great Expectations. I did quite enjoy Oliver Twist though. And I have Bleak House in my 'to be read' pile :)

*head explodes*

I got the audio tape of Great Expectations. FWIW, I don't feel I got much else from the book.

Well, it is telling that you have even read it, so maybe it's closer then you think... ;) I've never even heard of it. :P

I got The Godfather, heh. Doesn't seem to be the most accurate test site ever, although I did only take the 9 question version, obviously. :)

Naturally - time is money, ya know ;)

And as we agreed elsewhere, time doesn't exist. if time = money and time = NULL, then money = NULL. Or something. :P

Well, I know mathematicians who'd probably argue with that, but I'll just nod wisely...

sounds good to me... *nods*
