cybermule: (books)

Hmm. Brilliant book. Beautifully written, and well written in that I became absorbed and didn't want to put it down. Didn't personally find the post-apocalyptic scenery that much of a startler or the parental death that much of a tear-jerker, but then nobody will have expected me to. Didn't really matter watching the film first, in fact I'd quite like to re-watch it now as I remember it as being really rather good. More moving than the book, but then I get more engrossed in films, find them harder to detach somehow.

I've not read it, and after reading 'Child of God' I vowed never to read another Cormac McCarthy...

Why? I've not read any of his other books. I said I wouldn't read this one because it's so unrelentingly miserable as a film, but then it cropped up a couple of times...

Didn't see the movie, but the roasted newborn scene made me sick.

I also watched the film first although I didn't really enjoy it. The film seemed awfully shallow compared to the book, their struggles seemed almost superficial. I'll have to give it another go sometime, I might have just been in the wrong mood for it.

I hated the book, it's the only thing I've ever read to actually make me feel physically sick. I guess that's an accolade of sorts, not one I think has much value though.

No, not really. I got that with American Psycho. Normally I'm ok with books. rather than films. Find it hard to detach from images.

I've never read it either. I've heard of it, but until just now (I looked up the plot), I had no idea what it was about.
