Back to writing book reviews. It's my 2018 thing, so I feel I read some books.
This was beautiful actually. I think I saw it namechecked at the Robert Macfarlane exhibition. Can't remember.
Like most good nature writing, this is a borderline obsessive detailing of the author's relationship with a small chunk of ground found when returning to his home town up north. There are things happening in his Real Life, and like a lot of this male written nature stuff, you do wonder how he's getting away with all this time away from home running around fields. But it is delightfully written, even the bits about the human nature that invades His Spot. Those bits generally jar on me.
Pretty words. And an inspiration on the theme that no bit of ground is too common to be loved as nature.
