Jul. 22nd, 2003 08:06 pmFinally updating on my trip to Manchester :)
The trains were all crappy and delayed on Sunday, so ended up waiting over an hour for a connection at New Street. I seem to spend way too much of my time hanging around at that godforsaken station, although the boredom was relieved by a new discovery - gin&tonic in a can! Very tasty, and compensated somewhat for having my face patted by a strangely overfriendly guy who was waiting for a taxi in approximately the same space that I was wasting time in :/ By the time I got my connection to Manchester, it was dark and I had that eerie "descent into hell" feeling that one always gets when hurtling through the darkness in a train. Or maybe that's just me ;)
The hotel seemed very spiffy, but to be honest I just kicked off my shoes and got into bed straight away for some fitful rest. Giving a talk went well, although I was very nervous for some reason. But people asked questions, I got it over and done with and there's only one left to go ... *phew!* These events always give me a strange celebrity status - everyone knows me and wants to ask me stuff, but I don't really know them and it's all a bit weird. Rushed straight to a meeting, then straight to the train station and caught a very fast and smooth train ride home. Minimal time was spent at New Street, most of which was spent yumming down some vegetarian sushi :) Collapsed into bed as soon as I got home, but one big bonus was getting all the notes done for my next OU essay while I was on the train.
Today at work was somewhat stressful, so I'm looking forward to my day off. Might go to the garden centre for a few rocks and follow it up with exploration of Thornbury (especially the Thai restaurant and castle!). But first and foremost, I'm just going to enjoy my chance for a long and snoring lie-in.
Hope everyone out there is OK :)
----> Late edit for my gargoyle snap!

Date: 2003-07-23 07:27 am (UTC)Is there still a Budokan at the Mailbox? I've only tried the ones in Bristol, but their sushi is rather good, and they do good meal deals...

I take it you were in a Budokan in Bristol, not a Mailbox branch ;)
