Can anyone interested whizz through these, and let me know which one they think is best? And why, if you're feeling really chatty? I want to start to get my photographs out in the world, maybe make a bit of a living from them, and a hotel that I'm staying at soon is running an exhibition of local sunsets.

toss up between 3893 and 3895 I got a thing about pylons, telephone posts n stuff...something about them especially in that kind of light...good light by the way!

I like that one with pylons too! There are some other good ones that I took on the same holiday, but I'm not sure if they're local enough to the hotel to count.

3889 and 3895 are probably my least favourites. They just seem a little bland to me, although I can see why some would like 3895 - it's just not really my taste.

Out of the other three I'm somewhat torn between 3891 and 3893. 3893 seems more 'universal' - I think everybody would like that one - whereas the quirkiness of 3891 really appeals to me. I like the light glinting off the sign in the foreground, and then the line of the hill naturally leading the eye down to the sunset itself.

I love 3891 too! I just saw it and knew I had to have it, you know how it is :) Some of the others are a little bland, I agree, but I get a kick out of churning out those fairly standard postcard shots with so little effort :P The quirky ones are generally for me, the blander ones are generally filed under "may sell to the local tourist board".

3895. You've got the sunset showing in the clouds, and the birds in front are doing something interesting. They're sort of chaotic. But then off to the left they seem to be in a bit of formation. So, you kind of wonder, what's happening? It really holds your attention :)

3889 is good too, it captures a calm mood, but has the downside of not really having anything to focus your attention on.

Yeah - I like the birds. I'll probably send off that one, plus another more unusual one. Thanks, Aras :)

By the way, what camera do you have? I really need to get another one soon, but I'm torn between digital and film. The advantages of digital are obvious, but even though digital SLRs are far cheaper than they used to be, they're still a little more than I can really afford and I'm not sure I like the idea of giving up the flexibility of an SLR and going for a more affordable digital like a Nikon Coolpix.

I've got a Digital Ixus 330, which I was lucky enough to be given as a Christmas present :-) It's really robust, and takes nice shots, and it's the camera I mostly take out or on holiday with me. I have an SLR too, but that mostlly gets used for specialist stuff these days.

I do miss the flexibillity sometimes, though, even though the Ixus is pretty configurable.

Hope this isn't too late, I'm far behind on my friends list as usual. Though I've made a new, even smaller filter so I should be keeping up better now.

Clearly #5 is the winner for me. Because it is an atypical susnet pic.

Here's my order of preference, if it helps: 5, 3, 2, 4, 1.

I misread your post and at first scrolled through all the pics in the section to note my favourite(s). When done, I had picked out 2. Interestingly, one of them was one of the 5 you picked, #5. The other one just spoke to me personally hehe:

No - not too late. Takes me weeks to get my arse in gear with that sort of thing, so thanks for the contribution.

That shot of the digger rocks!

Heh I posted my answer before reading responses to ensure that I gave my true untainted impressions.

Interesting that the one I liked the most was the only one no one liked. And the two I liked the least were the most popular. :P

Thanks for the thoughtfulness :)

Nice.

I like them all. And I agree with many of the others, the bird one is definitely a sender. But I'm also partial to 3889 (oceans to me = cool and calming :) and 3891 (love the hillside curve!).

So, tie between 3891 and 3895. 3889 a close second.

BTW, the digger does indeed rock. Reminds me of a kid when I used to look at those things as big mechanized dinosaurs. ;)
