the two faces of my weekend - part one

Infuriating weekend and fun weekend. The phases of the weekend changed about midnight Saturday. So first
Firstly, my mom got burgled on Thursday, which I had a lot of sympathy for. Despite leaving her key in her purse in her jacket on the stairs while she visited her neighbours for an hour, the little git nicked a couple of personal bits and pieces of my Dad's, which has been pretty traumatic for all of us. They also nicked her stereo and VCR, but plans were in place to sort this out on Saturday.
Saturday was going to be a hectic day. I'd been forced to ditch some rather more entertaining social plans by my brother and mother deciding that they wanted to do a family thing that needed taking care of. My bro and his GF kindly did all the arrangements, sorting out a date and lifts for my gramp and aunt, and letting me know about 10 days before that it would be me doing all the driving. And indeed that this event was taking place at all.
So, arrangements were in place and everyone knew to phone me before I left at noon if there were any problems. OK, shoot me now, 'cos I was late and didn't get going until 12:20. Which was actually lucky as bro phoned just as I was leaving to tell me that he wasn't coming. His GF didn't want to do it today because she was feeling "unsociable". I pointed out that he could still come along and that I never knew that I was going to have to achieve the impossible of squeezing 5 passengers in a small 2 door saloon. But I'd neglected the obvious solution - dump my aunt, mom and grandad in the countryside and make a separate trip for bro + GF. Silly me! I thought that the 25 mile round trip to get mom and aunty + 40 mile trip to get bro + gramp, plus doing it all again in reverse was enough! And no, there was no option of going ahead without my brother. So, brother (against his wishes) was informed to phone aunt and gramp ASAP to cancel, while I went down to do my mom's shopping after lunch.
An hour later, aunt phones to ask where I am. I explain problems. As soon as I put the phone down, bro's GF phones to tell me how unreasonable I am to let poor ickle bro do all the work. Pointed out that he only had to make two phone calls, whereas I still had to do 20 mile round trip to get mum's shopping. Am now unreasonable for not knowing that bro + GF were going to do shopping as they were going down to visit my mom later in the day. Pointed out to bro's GF that the last I heard was that she was feeling unsociable, but if they were sure about doing the shopping then I'd get down to some other stuff. Arranged that they would do shopping and phone mom to let her know. 7pm mom phones, plaintive because she has no food, VCR or stereo. Am somewhat irate at this point, and phone bro to ask him what the problem is. Am informed (and isn't it obvious if you're as smart as bro + GF) that they were mainly going down to Bristol to go clubbing and buy GF some new boots, but decided after all that they didn't have enough money to do both, so weren't making the trip. Also were kind enough to inform everyone by psychic message :P Go to Bristol, sort out mother, come home, drink wine and collapse.
Don't like family and associated partners :P
OK - got that off my chest. Excuse extreme ranting, and await more cheerful and serene weekend installment after I've taken a shower...
