Actually, I can no longer remember how part 1 ended, but I essentially descended the perilous mountain and ended safely at the base, albeit about 3 miles further along the coast than I thought. But three miles the right way.

I've never been to the north side of the Gwyr peninsula - it's an estuarty, very flat. Fantastic landscape, but muddy and rather flat, so I'm glad I trimmed off three miles in exchange for walking around hills instead. I passed a small and random castle on the way to the coast path, then walk around the coast path to Llanmadoc.

Lots and lots of sheep and wild ponies. Very bleak and deathly, with thousands of dead baby crabs washed up on the grass along the tideline. Most notably, some rather dubious coast path that disappeared as it approached a river (cue some tomb-raider style shinning along walls), which eventually disappeared in a dead end in a farm in Llanmadoc.

I was almost tempted to give up at this point. Especially as the farm was supposed to be a campsite. Although a deserted and not very attractive one.

Hmm.

Luckily, one of those brisk and efficient middle-aged hiking blokes suddenly appeared. And one whose job it was to check footpaths, and so who was fearless enough to stomp around the farm looking for the footpath on through to Llangenith. He even lifted my pack over some barbed wire for me (and winced at the weight), and we had a nice chat, with some company, for a couple of miles where we parted company.

I then headed on to the campsite right on the edge of the beach at Llangennith. Cooked some tea, politely turned down an offer for the pub, watched the sun go down, and crawled into bed to nurse my aching legs.
