Cut, to save space on people's "friends" view.

These are mainly ideas that I wanted to capture from the current book I'm reading ("The Raw and the Cooked" - Claude Levi-Strauss). These are mainly for my own amusement, but I left it public so that anyone who wants to comment can feel free to do so :)

1. The contrast between the tangible and the intelligible may be transcended by use of combinations of signs. An analogy is drawn to the identification of perfumes: a different combination of the elements of a scent would lead to an entirely different flavour, and as we can translate these finer qualities of sense experience, so we can hope to define signs as secondary qualities of truth.

2. Discussion of these signs and their synthesis into something greater can be described along the same lines as musical composition. Music has always followed the middle way between aesthetic perception and the exercise of logical thought, and benefits are reaped by taking this supple approach and applying it to the weaving of signs and thoughts of mythology, where division into chapters and the unlinear approach of standard narractive (see Labov) force an unnatural framework onto the development of thought.

3. The process of mythical analysis can take place on different axes, alternating between discursive and diffuse, sometimes presenting a single thread and sometimes piling examples on top of each other. As well as a sequential analysis, at least one more axis of relative densities exists, comparable to solo and orchestral sections within a composition [amplitude and interference!]
