Phew!!!

I haven't updated for a while, as I had a bit of a crisis!

I wasn't very well on Friday, so I took the day off work. Did some OU work, caught up on a lot of sleep and ate lots of vitamin filled food. I felt considerably better on Saturday, so decided to go for a walk. I drove up to Winchcombe, parked in the town and walked up to Belas Knapp, which is a rather nice long barrow. It was a good stiff walk, so I've resolved to get more exercise in before heading to the Lake District next month! I also got pretty pissed off with the flies buzzing around. Bloody meat industry - I don't eat anything with a face or a mother, and rarely partake of dairy products, so I feel that I should be morally excluded from being pestered by flies :)

I took some great photos of the barrow, which I will post at some point after getting my legendary web-space upgrade, and it was a really pleasant day. Took my time walking back, and decided to assuage my hunger by taking a detour to Evesham and picking up some sandwiches. This was also an excuse to lech at some nice photo printers and generally check out Evesham micros. I also managed to pick up some bargain CDRs to replenish my stock after putting Lord of the Rings on CD for my brother.

Got back home to a bit of a crisis - my friend Jon's mother rang as soon as I got through the door to tell me he'd gone missing. He'd done the first day of a new job in Dorset, then had gone for a few drinks afterwards with some work mates. Suddenly he walked out and the next thing that was heard (on Thursday morning!) was that his car had been picked up with three flat tires somewhere near Lyme Regis! Craporama is an understatement - he's never done drink-driving in his life and he never misses work.

Rushed down to Dorset on Sunday morning and grabbed a stack of "missing" posters from his mom. It was weird being down there and seeing police searching the road with dogs, and helicopters and coastguards circling around, and knowing that it was in some way connected to you :( I trawled through Lyme Regis, Charmouth and Chideock, posting up the posters wherever seemed good and questioning likely looking locals. Still no joy, and the police were unwilling to upgrade to a full manhunt for a 29 year old guy. Despite the crappy situation, it was still nice by the sea, but in the end we had to admit defeat and go home for the day.

Nothing left to do but sit tight worrying all through today. Everyone was in a state of high stress, and I think I snapped quite badly at someone at work. On the less negatice side, he'd had it coming for a while. Luckily I got home to another phonecall from his mom, saying that there seemed to be a message on the answerphone from Jon. An hour later she confirms that it was indeed from him - he'd seen himself on the TV and thought he better ring home! Duh! I can't help but think that some misadventure must have occurred for him to do that, but I'm still completely happy that he's home. I prayed and prayed that no more bad things would happen to the people I love, and now I'm silently thanking my nameless gods that it's all turned out well :D

And now, to bring some humour into the whole thing, I'm tracking down some "alien abduction" dog-tags for his birthday - they have instructions on how to get back to earth if you're abducted ;)

Three flat tires? Wow, that's harsh! I had three of my windows broken earlier this year by 202kph winds at my workplace, though at least the car is still driveable with that. Yeesh.

...and rarely partake of dairy products...

I can understand not being a carnivore, but to deny ice cream as well if you're not lactose intolerant is unquestionably a bad ethical call! You shall be publicly flogged for the next fortnight, Ms. Mule. ;)

Yeah - I still have to find out what exactly happened, as three flat tyres is a bit of a disaster. I'm still basking in the happy ending for now, but some heavy sarcasm is going to be in order some time in the future :)

And no need for a flogging, as ice-cream is one of the things I make an exception for :P It's not a particularly ethical standpoint - I just don't really like eggs or most milk products. Except frozen ones. With sugar and maybe tasty flavourings :)

Ever tried vegan ice cream? I haven't yet, but I've been informed by a vegan friend that it tastes even better than the 'real' stuff.

Hmm. I had soya ice-cream once, I think, but didn't specifically note it was vegan. I do remember quite liking it compared to rhe normal version, as I don't really like the flavour of milk. Ice-cream is just a bit of an occasional fad to me. Could wax lyrical for hours on the virtues of crisps, though :)
