Had a brilliant one night break in the Gower - sleeping on an airbed is actually pretty damn comfortable when you're pregnant. Hiking shorts aren't :( I was hoping to keep wearing them right up until the end :((

Walked along the big ridge that I missed in my epic tour of the Gower last year. Lots of cairns and stone ruins. Grumbled a lot about how being pregnant was slowing me down. Took some good pictures. The man camping next to us was a tosser - made some lame joke about how only big tents were allowed next to the sea, then drove up to the toilet block in his jag.

We did BBQ, walking, sitting on the beach and pub lunch, and it was all best :)

I don't think a price can be put on how good sitting by the sea is for the soul. I felt like I'd had a holiday and we were only there for 7 hours! Glad you had a wonderful time :) xxx

I love the Gower... I grew up spending summer holidays visiting my great grandparents who lived overlooking Caswell Bay :)

Lovely! I used to spend lots of my holidays at the chalet park in Caswell Bay when I was a little tot. I went back last year, though, and it had all got a bit busy and commercial :( The Gower is a smashing place, though - last year, I pretty much walked all round it!

It's due in the middle of June, so I'm 7 months (and feeling it :/). And that's one less mystery in life :)

airbeds aren't too bad generally. At Christmas Quercus and I had to sleep on one at my parents and we slept pretty well.

Took some good pictures

yet no evidence... tsk! :)

Still, good to hear that you had a nice time away. Shame about the gent with his odd sense of "humour", at least he tried I guess. Decent places to relax gently are hard to find - looks like you got it sorted though :)))

Heheh - I'm planning a big photo spree for the beginning of my maternity leave. ALthough I'm sure I did post some in the not too distant past...

Didn't really mind the bloke, but was just a bit non-plussed. I'm not very good at dealing with non-funny jokes ;)

Unfortunately for all concerned, I get to decide what's funny. So Dai is in, but boring blokes with jags are out.

I quite liked Gower too but Kieron fell in love with the beach at Rhossili, all 4 miles of it. He wants to spend a week there, while I hike around the peninsula. :-)

I was thinking of getting an OS map to compose walks. Are there any walking books you'd recommend for Gower? Or is rolling my own from the OS Explorer the best thing to do?

I fell for Bowstones Granary in Port Eynon, but it wasn't available when I wanted it - here's the complete list:

I was walking around the peninsula, so I just got the map and walked round. I think it's pretty good for showing likely chunks for hiking, and I'd be happy to recommend bits. I also dimly remember a website with a few walks on, so I'll have a look for that. The buses are quite good, too, if you want to do one-way walks.
