Aha - I wondered what a bract looked like. Thanks also for pointing me to the right plant - did you know it already, or do you have some special way of looking these things up?

You've seen bracts before. Unless you've somehow managed to avoid poinsettias completely. :-) Bougainvilleas have brightly coloured bracts too.

I'd seen the plant before and knew it was a salvia, so I googled "salvia bracts" in Google images.
