...those bacterial sprays for your kitchen, that kill 99.9% of bacteria.

Does that include your gut bacteria after you've prepared sandwiches on the surface? Just wondering...

I'm feeling a little irked at life - I've strained something in my shoulder, and am feeling the lack of parents right now.

The instructions say to wipe off the surfaces after you spray them, so I think you're meant to prepare sandwiches in the brief period when your counters are virtually bacteria free, but freshly wiped. Then again, most anti-bacterial things need to be poured on super thick and left for ages to actually do anything. I think they just didn't want Ivory soap to be the only brand to claim 99% something-ness.

Sorry to hear you're not in a great mood. I have sympathy, though for different reasons.

Aww - hugs to you too, then. My shoulder's better, but no change with the parents.

Good point....probably! And maybe that partly explains why now they say too much use of them can lower our resistance to things.

Yay for anti-bacterial resistance! I only use that kind of stuff if I ave prepared raw beef or chicken or something. And I hate anti-bacterial hand soaps.

I never use the anti-bac sprays...hand wash yes, sprays no. I'm not entirely convinced they're a good thing, not to the degree we use these things these days. There's a lot of evidenced to suggest that our hygiene frantic society is actually lowering our natural resistance to deal with these things ourselves. Of course I have used them, when the kids were small, but then as soon as they start moving around, crawling over floors, picking up stuff they shouldn't, using the bin as a handy hoist to stand, I got to the point where it got all a bit 'what's the point' :D

I have no idea if they interfere with stomach gut flora - my hunch is probably not, you'd need to ingest quite a bit of it to make a difference internally, but I could be wrong.

**huge hugs** too :)

I've all but given up sterilising, except for bottles. I would if his dummy fell out outside, but I don't see the point if it falls on the same floor that he rolls and crawls on.

Exactly...I think people get far more paranoid about these things than is really necessary. On a slight tangent though still relevant, at college we've just been looking at parasites, and apparently researchers now think that the elimination of internal parasites to the level we do, has left our bodies vulnerable to immune reactions which cause things like Crohns Disease, IBS and certain inflammatory bowel conditions; certain worms have been with us for thousands of years, and they're actually beneficial to us...

Can't say I fancy giving myself a dose worms to sort my IBS out though **shudders**
