Went to Scotland to visit in-laws for the weekend. Both in-laws were very lovely, which was a bonus as what I'd really gone to Scotland for was the Ansel Adams exhibition in Edinburgh. That absolutely rocked. The depth and detail on the prints was amazing, and something you can't really capture in other reproductions. Contrary to what my ex used to tell me, you really do have to step away from the internet to appreciate some things. We also trailed the other guy in the exhibition around for a bit. It gave me a huge wanderlust - I miss the sea, I miss the mountains; I want to go back to Canada or the American West and see the landscapes.

We had curry four times in three days. I don't actually want to see curry again for a while now. We also stayed at the Raj Hotel - an Indian themed hotel in Edinburgh that I can highly recommend. All good.

In other news, I'm embroiled in a battle with the recycling collectors. My stuff hasn't been removed for 5 weeks now (except 0ct0pus took it yesterday, probably to stop me bitching). Always for some petty reason that isn't actually true. I follow the recycling rules to the letter, not because I'm a natural rule-follower, but because I pick my battles. Some things aren't worth the time it takes not to do them right. Anyhow, this is annoying me.

And finally - goals for April. Chunky but attainable - lose 5lbs, run 5km in 40 minutes, send off my RHS test papers.

I wonder if that was related to the Ansel Adams exhibition I saw here a year or two ago? Anyhow, yes, those prints are amazing, some seem to be alive :)

Very likely. It's not part of a tour, but I imagine they would have recycled a great part of a recent one to make the exhibition. The prints were amazingly rich :)

I was wondering the same thing about the exhibit - is it traveling? We saw one in DC a while back that was fantastic!!!

And soo funny about the recycling people, they hate me too - they refuse to take my stuff even when its all sorted PERFECTLY!!! I have gotten several nasty notes from them telling me what I did wrong one week, so I correct it, and then the next week its the exact opposite of whatever I had done before! Its nonsensical. I am THROUGH with them, now I just throw everything in the car and go to the center - eff curbside pickup >:

Don't think its travelling, but I would hazard a guess that its been recycled from a recent tour.

I have the same problem with the recycling men. Firstly it wasn't clean (yeah, right). This time it was a sorting issue (according the the arsey red sticker). I'm getting really hacked off with it.

What if you have a really large really high-resolution monitor and find a website with high definition scans of the prints? Can you stay in your room forever without feeling like you're missing out on anything then? :o)

And 5km? What are you, European? Plus, 5km in 40 minutes? Isn't that about 4 miles an hour? AKA average walking speed? I'm not trying to be bitchy here, I'm just querying it because it seems like a typo.

No, really. You do need to see them. That was the first time I'd been really convinced of the fact. They were textural enough to be the equivalent of paintings, and you need to see them live. You can appreciate the actual composition and so on, I agree, but not the technical perfection involved in the process.

And yeah, I've given up on miles when it comes to hiking and other sporting activities. In my head, I've finally become european, which was another thing I'd not been convinced on. And yeah again - a fairly unfit European who smokes way too much pot to manage a decent running speed at this point in their life. Although 4 miles an hour is a pretty pokey walking speed. Even people I know who are well buff can't walk that fast :) Goals should be attainable in my mind - I want a 10 minute mile by the end of the summer, just not by the end of this month. Don't worry - I'm aware you weren't being bitchy :)

I was writing with my tongue (well, keyboard I guess) in my cheek with that first comment. I don't buy in to the idea that 'virtual' experiences can completely substitute for real ones. Not until they invent one of those things that plugs into your brain Matrix-style anyway.

I've had it in my head that 4mph is average walking speed for years. Not sure where I got that from. A bit of Googling reveals that it's supposed to be about 3.5mph for men and about 3mph for women (over flat ground). I think mine's closer to 4mph but that's just because I'm a lanky git.

But I really wasn't trying to criticise your pace or anything, I completely agree about the achievable goals. Good luck!

Heh - like I think I said, I had a BF that refused to do anything because you could experience it all online, so I've no normal yardstick for that sort of thing. Plus for someone with a really dry and misinterpretable sense of humour, I'm totally gullible ;) But I have spent all day pondering how well you can portray texture online, which is a good thing.

The pace thing honestly wasn't bothering me. Except I envy speedy lankiness as I have stumpy little legs. Thanks, though :)

Actually, I think I thought it was 4 mph for a while. Not that I'm sure where that came from either. I'd be tempted to blame my dad - he seems to have been responsible for most of the dubious pearls of wisdom that I trot out :/
