Nicked this off ninneviane, and now we're both fascinated. I haven't read all the scientific gubbins yet, though, so don't expect me to say anything intelligent :P
Current Mood:okay
Current Music:radio stream that's sampling 10CC - I'm not old, honest!
Yeah - that could well be the case :) All it takes is one '+' instead of a '-' in the code and you're instantly transgendered. I still haven't read the details, so I've not really got to the bottom of it.
Heh - and I was counting on you to be one of the 90+% males ;P I haven't read the theory yet, but it seems to throw most people out as being a bit androgynous. Which is a neat thought, but one I unfortunately suspect to be untrue :(
One thing that never occurred to me is how "manly" some of my interests seem to be. Video games and IT, yeah - that's a stereotype, along with knitting. But being seriously into music and movies is apparently a "guy thing" *shrugs* Didn't really notice it until someone pointed it out, but I guess I don't know many like-minded females.
I'm not surprised I don't come out high-ranking male, where's the sports references, etc. hehe. Plus I'm INFP, which doesn't have many traditional male qualities. I don't grunt and growl. :P
Without having a clue about the theory, I'd venture a guess that it is highly skewed and based on stereotypes and bias from the guy (gal?) who created it. Just like MBTI is likely skewed by the fact it was created by a female, or whatever. There can never be zero bias.

I read up on andros recently when I came across some interesting science story, to do with genital modification of babies by doctors at or near birth. If the baby doesn't blatantly fit male or female, they talk to the parents immediately about some operation they do so that the kid doesn't grow up "confused". And it occurs a lot more than you think, it was something like 1 baby in 1000 gets this operation done. And it seems to be pressured upon parents in order to "save the child trauma"... I would think it'd be the reverse, risking that the kid might grow up _feeling_ something is off, but can't quite ever figure it out. IMO the least parents can do is to tell the kid about it once they are mature enough. But then you could mess with a situation that has no problems... the whole issue is very "can of worms". :/
I do agree with the andros tho, who think babies should be left alone as-is. It's the culture that's the problem, not nature.
Some of the stuff I read there made me realize that it's not male or female like with colours black or white, it's a gradual scale like the color scale. Very interesting stuff.
...
Music a guy thing? There's no way... at least in my experience the stereotype is that music is slightly more a gal thing. But whatever, it's obviously irrelevent, it's a human thing, and perhaps even an animal thing. One wonders if the trees like music. Haven't I read somewhere that plants grow better around music? Or was that just talking to plants (i.e. more oxygen)?
Plus I'm INFP, which doesn't have many traditional male qualities. I don't grunt and growl.
lol. no growls, no sport. I get it. I don't think INFP _is_manly in the traditional sense. But then there seem to be a high number of non-girly INFP women too. Maybe we're just happier to sit in our true place on your gender scale idea?

*shudders* Possibly one of my personal definitions of madness. I don't mind losing touch with reality in whatever way, but to know that I'dlost touch and to find that troubling would bother me.

Agreed. I had some neat quote on music that eludes me right now. I think I just don't know that many women, and those that do are all analysts. Plus, I was thinking more of "being into music" in a boring, detailed, database-making kind of way, rather than actually thriving on beautiful noise.
