Blech - feel like shite :( I need even more sleep and I think I might be allergic to pasta, if such a thing is possible.

Anyhoo -
Fairly busy weekend - the two main highpoints were celebrating my bro's birthday. Despite having to clean my mum's place up (*rolls eyes*, we still had a good evening watching THe Untouchables and X-Men. Didn't notice until now that Xavier is played by the same guy that played Sejanus in I Claudius (a veritable breeding ground of quality actors :)). The films were both quite good (OK, I'll be honest, X-Men definitely didn't bear a second watch, and I fell asleep!) and the curry was damn fine!

Sunday was nearly a total washout - I didn't realise Big Fish would be so popular, so turning up 10 minutes after the start of the afternoon showing was a mistake! However, it did give me chance to get tickets for the next showing and buy a couple of t-shirts for work. And I got them from ASDA for less than £2 each, so I am now the queen of uncool. Nyah! :p I hate buying clothes for work, especially as there's an enforcedly higher turnover than my everyday clothes (I still have clothes from when I was 14, and I'm proud of it!)

Big Fish was rather ace, but I'll leave the review until tomorrow, as someone has bought me a ticket for tonight too :) (Get out of the work pub-quiz - YAY!).

Monday was the first day of my Old English course at Bristol Uni. I was already rather nervous as I've never done an arts course, and arriving 5 minutes late to find the old(er) ladies in full-flow of translation was off-putting. It was just like being at Uni the first time around - I was strung out, I'd done no work, and I didn't know where I was supposed to be. Decided that I didn't like the old ladies (loud, rude), and finally found my feet and showed off a little :) Also decided that social workers are almost exclusively scary after having a long debate with one of the guys on my course regarding whether I was going to eat when I wasn't hungry. I always get the impression that they're personality-typing and psychologically assessing me :) Oh - and one of the girls in my seminar is breathtakingly gorgeous, so that provides eye-candy in the duller moments :)

Anyhoo - the short summary is that I eventually felt that I liked the course* . And that I ate sushi for lunch :)

* More and more I come to the conclusion that this is the main definition of the "Feeling" MBTI type - that we make our judgements based upon a transitory and personal impression. So first I hated the OE course, then, even though nothing had changed, I liked it. Whereas "Thinkers" tend to be more logical and constant. For me it's mostly stress-related - I don't deal too well with new environments and (forced ;)) sensory overload, so I tend to react with my heart rather than my head, I think. Would my MBTI result be different if I'd never taken the test before and I did it now? (note: INTJ/INFJ/ISFP have all come up as results at various points.)

Me too...tired, upon tired, so big ol' tired hugs from me to you **hugs**
And yes, it is possible to be allergic to pasta, because of the wheat, and as I remember, bloating, gas, nausea, headaches, tiredness and water retention are a few of the symptoms.

Big Fish was rather ace...
Cool! Everyone's been saying such good things about it and to be honest that usually makes me want to run for the hills and not watch something, but yes, this does seem to be hitting the right spot with quite a few people who's (or is it 'whose'...argh, grammar confusion **eek*) opinions I value. Might just check out it out :)

Always good to have a little eye candy to keep the eyes interested in the duller moments...I think ;)

who's (or is it 'whose'...argh, grammar confusion **eek*)

IIRC, its whose because it's possessive. Who's is 'who is' only, whose is possessive.

The problem I have is who and whom usually...

No - commendations for having a really un-annoying LJ in terms of grammar and spelling. I usually get the mental blocks on spelling. My mind goes blank at some words, and it's dead easy to get all phonetic when you're typing...

*hugs right back* There must be some virus going around - I am unbelievably tired, and the more I sleep, the worse it gets.

nausea, headaches, tiredness and water retention are a few of the symptoms.

Yikes! I've been feeling blah ever since I made pasta last night, with all those symptoms. I don't usually hold with all those food allergies, but I'm starting to wonder if there's something up...

And yeah - eye candy is definitely good *drool*

Heh, imagine how bad it'd be if you didn't rest. :/

Get well soon.

Clothes from 14? Wow, that is impressive. I still have my old high school jacket and maybe a barbershopping vest, but that would be about it.

Isn't Xavier played by Patrick Stewart, the Mr. Clean somehow turned sex god in the eyes of many women? Apparently, seminar girls have more to offer, it seems. I'll have to pay more attention in class from now on. ;)

Yes, Xavier is played by Patrick Stewart, of Capt. Picard on Star Trek fame. He also had parts in Dune (as Stilgar maybe, don't remember) and the 1980's Excalibur (Gwenhyvar's father, although they probably didn't use that spelling....).

Also done a lot of stage work, and IIRC was trained for a more Shakespearean style...

Mmm - think he was Shakespearean trained. Quite a lot of that generation of actors are (eg Ian McKellen and the rest of the LOTR crew).

And I'm sure they didn't use that spelling. There are so many variations, and am I right in thinking it's modern equivalent is Jennifer?

I would think so. It seems likely at least.

And I think I've read too many Arthur stories, I can't remember that spelling was from...

Me too - one of my faves, and a huge spreading miasma of mythology behind it that can take you right back to the Iron Age. Plus I probably mentioned before that SW England is steeped in Arthurian legends, so I kind of grew up with it. Come to the UK - I'll give you the tour! ;)

Actually I'd love to get over there. I want to see the Arthur Gillow memorial, Gillow Castle, and a few celtic/irish landmarks. It's on top of my list of wishful vacations (right up there with Egypt). Unfortunately, I HATE flying (scared of heights) and scared to death of cruise ships (recurring nightmare) so not likely I'll ever go anywhere I can't drive. At least not without someone to keep me occupied so I don't get ill on the flight...

*chuckle*

Either that or you come visit us over here, then you can drag me back yourself. Actually I've learned to do okay with flying (Aisle seat please though), just not enough to be willing to take that long of a flight alone. I was starting to get nervous after 2.5 hours in the air last time I flew.

The other thing is I'm poor! I'd have to use my income tax return for it, and that means putting off some of the remodeling and not buying my new recliner!

Heheh - OK :D Sounds like a plan. We have to have opposing aisle seats though, cos I get mildly claustrophobic. But I don't mind planes too much, even though I don't actually enjoy them. But like you, I'm poor and already possibly overcommitted on holiday plans this year, so maybe in 2005...

Heh, you need an aisle seat for mild claustrophobia, and I need an aisle seat for EXTREME agraphobia (If I remembered the right word, fear of heights). I actually have to meditate every once in a while in the air or I start hyperventilating...

And yet I love to go rock jumping, don't even mind hoping over gaps that are 50-100 feet deep... I am weird...

Nah - you're not weird (*ahem*). It's just that aeroplanes are weird. You have to surrender control entirely, it's unnatural, and you have no real sense of travel. I get claustrophobic everywhere, mind you - restaurants, cinemas, trains. I love to look out the window of a plane, but I hate being hemmed in.

Heh you remind me I still have to read books 5 and 6 of that series, so I can also watch the movie, finally! :/

So much to read, so little time. My other top reading priorities are Flatland, some Philip K dick short stories, and Snow Crash. Not to mention my usual internet reading. :(

I'm relying on you to invent those "head sockets" that they use to upload data in the Matrix :) I mentioned the possibility at work today, and I think I just ruined the my tiny shreds of work-cred. Ho-hum :p

I've only read the first 4 myself (dune, messiah, children, god-emporer). Started them as a favor to my ex (she agreed to read WoT in return). Not a fan of Frank Herbert's writing style personally. Great story, annoying writing. Eventually I'll finish the next 2 since I have them, but probably never gonna do the prequels.

The Sci-Fi channel version of the movie is MUCH better and much truer to the story than the original. I want to see the version of Children that was done last year or the year before.

Didn't enjoy Flatland when I read it either. Don't know the rest of those...

Heh I won't either, but since you don't like Frank's writing style, you may actually be one of the few that would prefer the prequels.

Philip K Dick does far-out insane sci-fi stuff. He wasn't appreciated when he was alive, but has become increasingly popular since his death. There are several movies based on his stories: Blade Runner, Total Recall, Screamers, Minority Report.

Snow Crash is by Neal Stephenson. It's cyberpunk, virtual reality and stuff. I read The Diamond Age of his, and really loved it. It covers all kinds of stuff, with a nanotechnology setting. Similar to Dune in the sense that it looks at many aspects of humanity/etc.

Yes - that's Patrick Stewart. Can't say I see the godlike properties myself, but I'll take your word for it as I'm not known for my appreciation of commonly accepted godlike filmstars :) Now, godlike co-seminees is a different kettle o' fish...

If you're feeling bloated after eating pasta, chances are that you're reacting to the gluten. You probably don't have a gluten allergy, because you'd know that. Just cut down on stuff that contains gluten for a while and you'll probably feel better. That means anything with wheat in it. Other cereals such as rye and oats also contain gluten. Cereals that don't include rice, millet, quinoa and buckwheat.

Definitely! Plus, people who claim they have allergies when they obviously don't annoy me - someone at work was trying to tell me that they were allergic to fat and glucose, and got verry huffy when I pointed out that such an allergy would be fatal.

Thank you, Apel. I don't generally eat many cereals, but ironically, since I started trying to be healthy and eat more breakfast/pasta, I've been feeling quite bloated and unwell :(

Well, give your poor body a chance, it's having withdrawal symptoms from being used to bad food. ;) Suddenly you are treating it well and it doesn't know wtf is going on. Haha I'm exaggerating of course.

Funny how the human body can let one know it's going to hell in a handbasket without one iota of remorse, yet when one treats their body right, there is no acknowledgement whatsoever. Ungrateful veggie-filled bag of mostly water! ;)
