I'm sure the reason that you can't get through to a human at BT is that they know they're crap. They've cancelled my mom's direct debit, and cut her off. Now they'll want another £20 to reconnect her. I've explained that she's not capable of managing her bills, but despite my requests to receive her paperwork, they sent some forms out to her to fill in for special dispensation not to be cut off at the drop of a hat. They won't send me the forms because they may contain sensitive information. They'd send me them if my mom had been sectioned, or if I had power of attorney, but I wouldn't be able to get either of those because my mom's an alcoholic, and therefore isn't technically classed as mentally ill.
It's a total catch-22 situation, and it's frustrating as hell. Meanwhile, BT continue to randomly cut her off and charge £20 for re-connection. I think a visit to the OFTEL website is in order :p
And in a more peaceful vein, thanks for the comments people left on a post yesterday. It wasn't supposed to be a whiny, pity-party type post, more a statement of fact and resolution, but the kind and helpful comments were appreciated :)
