This is such a beautiful song. I've spent the entire day lost in it, wrapped in the innocence of the lyrics and the simple beauty of the riff. It's just such a perfect love song, although I'm not a fan of that genre, I have to admire it.

I've been finding more and more that sensory things absorb me completely. I guess I'm just becoming more tuned in to what I like, so I gaze around absorbed in every visual detail, and sink myself entirely into the music, and become entranced with the physical sensation of swimming. And no, I'm not permanently stoned :) Just a little tripped out on life.

I'm probably becoming close to being institutionalised with this new found game :) I spent the day in Bath, gently humming and singing to myself, and flying the miniature kite that I bought from a guy on the street corner. It was a beautiful sunny day, actually. May is a good month in England. Oh, and I've become addicted to good olives :)

Heh, and on a more banal note, I finally found out my correct bra size. Which is possibly TMI, but after fifteen years of having to buy the damn things, it's quite a relief :) My dishwasher finally broke. This is not bad news, as I won't replace it. And tomorrow I'm taking my front gate off its hinges and recycling it. This is not the first(?) sign of my insanity - I just care a lot less about someone coming in and standing on my path than I care that I'm constantly having to deal with other people obsessive-compulsively closing my gate for me.

That just made me LOL. :D

Heheh - unfortunately, it's deadly serious. Sometimes it's people doing mailshots, and I know they're probably told to shut gates after them. So I was thinking of a "please *don't* close the gate" sign. But I have observed a couple of people closing it for no reason other than a misguided sense of neatness or helpfulness. So I thought I'd just save them some time and take it right off.

The concept of gates and fences is kind of weird to me, I have to admit.

I have a tendency to do that, I have to admit. Neatness was beaten into me from a young age and it's not something I have that much control over anymore. But a lot of gates bang in the wind if they're left open, and that annoys a lot of people, so I figure my OCD isn't too bad...

Heheh - that's OK. Neatness is a good habit. My gate is rusted to fuck though, so (a) I feel sorry for anyone closing it, and (b) it's a pain to open it again.

Problem solved now, though :)

You've discovered an untapped market! Signs stating "Please do not shut gate". :D

Yeah - I'd buy one.

How so?

Well, if someone wants to stand in my garden, a weeny little gate and wall isn't going to stop them. And given that I don't really care about the sanctity of my garden boundaries, I'm not sure if I really want it to, you know?

Add to that the fact that I'm not sure even if we should "own" chunks of land, let alone fence them off with huge fuck-off barricades, and I'm just not convinced.

I concede that not everyone thinks this way :)

Yah I was wondering if that's what you meant. I agree, and sadly indeed not everyone thinks that way heh.

The whole concept of gates and fences and all... Blah. I think I need to take a history lesson or something, because no one ever explained to me how the concept of "owning land" is even logical in the first place. The other animals get along fine sharing space without owning anything, why don't we?

Aha - coincidentally, I just read something about this in a book on feminism. I was thinking that ownership maybe started in medieval times. But this book explained that it was more a product of evolving to an agricultural society (like in Mesopotamia) - people both tend to stay put and acquire a surplus of goods, so land ownership starts to make sense. To them, anyway :) So what starts as a lord-figure managing an agricultural area slowly becomes an established ownership by those few in power. The land was then cascaded down to knights, earls etc as royal favours in feudal times, or bought up by the middle classes as the class and economic structure changed post-industrialisation.

Yeah, a lot of people just seem to use them for random storage of things :)

Exactly - they just make you acquire more stuff. A dishwasher, and more crockery to fill it up and make it worth running. And then you could try the fancy soap tablets *just for a while*, and before you know it, you've turned into a person who owns a dishwasher. Which is not someone I want to be :P

See, I don't mind owning a dishwasher. I prefer it because I HATE doing dishes by hand. Then again, in this house dishes are done once a month. I use the same cup, the same plate, the same pot/pan, the same spoon/fork/knife for a month, just wiping it off each time I need it. My roommate uses a different thing each time he eats or drinks something, but he leaves them all over the house so they aren't gathered to the kitchen except once a month or so (basically when he gets the urge to do dishes. We use a lot of paper plates, and eat a lot of nuke-food so its not like we use a lot anyway.

Okay, enough of an aside.

Yeah - I tend to stick to the same method. Except I have more crockery. It's quite handy to have somewhere to hide the dirty dishes, but I don't actually have to run the dishwasher to use it for that purpose ;0

Heh true true. I guess I'd never have any use for a dishwasher seeing as how I've always been satisfied with one pot, one pan, one plate, one glass, one bowl, one fork, one spoon and one knife (very rarely used). :)

Yeah - I'm not convinced of the point of knives. Once you stop eating meat, they have no function whatsoever.

Good point. And talking of being without suitable implements, are you still up for some sort of country excursion while I'm in Canada? Em was talking about some parks being good to visit...

Brilliant :) I'm spending the first few days in Toronto, but Allison is leaving on the Tuesday. And as Matt no longer seems to be turning up at all, that leaves my schedule completely open. As I suspect yours is, but anyway - what would work for you?

Me too. I was just outside playing with ants. :) I gave them a nice treat, apple core! Probably a new experience for the individuals who tasted it. :)

Sadly though I dropped two of them 5 meters from their home, I hope they find their way back!

I think they probably will. Ants are really smart at finding their way around. I find them really fascinating - have you seen those big tree-cutter ants? And the other day I saw this big long line of them carrying crumbs down a hole in a drain cover. And another line coming back out to get more crumbs from somewhere miles away!

Absolutely fucking insane!

Tree-cutter ants... nope. A quick googling isn't helping me figure out what they look like...

Yah, ants rule. :)
