Something wicked this way comes...
Jun. 8th, 2004 08:54 amWent to see the new Harry Potter film last night, and really enjoyed it. The third Harry Potter novel was always my favourite - I'm not ever going to be an obsessive fan, but it seemed to combine depth with brevity in about the right proportions. The film was actually quite beautiful, with wonderful landscapes, and the dementors were quite creepy.
Feeling way less spun out today, too. My brain was with the faerie yesterday. In a good way. And it still is, mostly. But in a better way :)
One thing I am having difficulties with in life is postfeminism. I've got the feeling that I'd actually find it really interesting, but that the book I'm reading isn't that good. It doesn't explain anything, just bombards you with cool phrases. I'll either find a better book, or get someone to explain some of it to me, I think.

Date: 2004-06-08 08:05 am (UTC)I agree with the HP assesment...MUCH better than the earlier installments! But as you said, the third story IS the best. Gotta love an escaped animagus/reformed criminal. Question: is there anything sexier than a haunted and misunderstood warlock who can turn into a huge black dog at will? Answer: Not much - unless its a nebbishly adorable professor with unfortunate lunar tendancies!! The hippogryph was lovely as well, and Malfoy is having too much fun. I have high hopes for the fourth after seeing this one. Glad you enjoyed it :)

Date: 2004-06-08 05:03 pm (UTC)Who are Wormtail, Padfoot, Mooney and Prongs ? We see their names on the map, but we never find out who they are. Why does the patronus have antlers ? Who is Peter Pettigrew ? These aren't trivial issues, especially not for the later books.
I really did like Hogwarts though. The clock tower is great and I just loved the elephants in the astronomy tower.
Lupin was some excellent casting too. I'd never heard of this guy before. Strangely reminiscent of Michael Gambon's weary singing detective.

Date: 2004-06-09 01:21 am (UTC)Good point - I kept expecting them to explain that, and it was a shame they missed it. I can't even remember the answers to the other two questions myself :( And Lupin was definitely good. I thought I recognised him from somewhere, but I guess I didn't. And he did have that world-weary air to him.
