On the way into work this morning, I was stuck in the traffic jam behind a monstrous Toyota jeep.

Through my bleary pre-nine haze, I noticed its tyre cover had a picture of a canoeist on, obviously doing something very dashing.

And a slogan.

Society should consider the tender environment of the earth

They'd also replaced the little Euroflag on the license plate with an England flag.

I was so tempted to get out and knock on the driver's window to ask how they arrived at nationalist-5-litre-jeep-driving-environmentalist as a political position.

Was it because their car was green?

Hehe. Some people 'consider' harder than others ;)

That's true. I sort of got the impression that they considered, then about 0.5 seconds later, they just thought "nah".

Maybe they considered it, then realised that they didn't really care?

A nice (anti-)advert has just popped into my head. Some desolate wasteland type image, a car dimly visible in the distance, with the slogan "The car in front is a Toyota"

Heheh - that's quite likely. Good thought.

"Tender" as in "legal tender", I assume. The value of the earth in monetary terms?

Meh. That would make sense. I'm not particularly environmentally friendly, but then I don't exhort others to be so via bumper stickers.

They don't have Hummers over there yet, do they? Those things are almost obscene. Our neighbour has one, and it fits in the garage with about an inch to spare on the top and sides. The posh Scottsdale types like them too, as well as big SUV's, dualies (pickups with dual back wheels), and SUV/minivan cross things. And large vehicles are never complete without 'Support Our Troops!' ribbon magnets stuck on them.

We have a Toyota and like it, but then again, ours is a Corolla (the second smallest kind), and the gas mileage is better than any other non-hybrid for the size of the thing, at least from the information I've been able to find. Besides environmental concerns, there's something to be said for cars you can afford to drive.

No, we don't have them, but coincidentally, I saw a picture of one in a magazine today, so they're on their way. They're brutes, aren't they? I drive a little old peugeot and that does me just fine. I like to be able to afford to drive my car, especially with petrol prices being so high over here!

My sometimes inconsistent viewpoints could lead to a nice sarcastic paradox like the above. :) That's what happens when you are forever learning who you are, and always open to change.
