So simple

For years, I've had a nasty scalp irritation that mostly looks like dandruff, but involves pain and weeping sores, sometimes blood. Tried all sorts of shampoos, but nothing worked for longer than about a month. Anti-dandruff shampoos actually made it worse, burning the scalp on contact. Even expensive hypoallergenic shampoos didn't work.

Washing it under the kitchen tap, however, solves the problem. I'd rinsed my henna off the other day and noticed that my scalp stayed intact for much longer. Normally after a couple of days - 3 at the most - it's painful and inflamed. After a second wash in the same conditions, my scalp is still good 4 days later. I guess the shower just doesn't rinse properly and I'd built up an allergy to the unrinsed remains.

My eyes are sore from playing Freecol too long last night. And I feel low - I think this is becasue my relationship with my brother doesn't fell too good right now.

psoriasis of the scalp...i have the same problem. It usually only occurs to me when i'm stressed(like at the moment!). I also find most shampoos aggrevate it. It's a bloody horrid condition.

Washing the shampoo out thoroughly helps alot, but i've also found that one really helps:
Oilatum Scalp Treatment Shampoo
it's not cheap but when i use it my scalp clears on that day.

other option is going to your doctor - they used to prescribe me with coal tar shampoo, and my Mum who also has the condition has been prescribed a steroid lotion for her scalp - but i try to avoid that kind of thing.

hope that's of some help

Yeah - I don't fancy pouring steroids on my head, either. Does the oilatum stuff have coal tar in?

my sister and dad have that. After lots of Dr advice they wash thier hair in polytar shampoo, but my sis also finds that Paul Mitchell Awapooi shampoo is the single only normal shampoo that doesn't set it off. seborrheic eczema is what they have, apparently.

You never know, might help you too.

The tar shampoos burn my scalp :( I will try the other one though - thank you! If it helps, the green bar shampoo from Lush is also good, and the JASON one you can get from health shops.

maybe an occasional herbal rinse may help too---something like sage and rosemary infusion (double strength tea) to help your scalp heal. *hugs* that has to suck :(

Good thinking - I'll raid the herb garden. The shampoo I use now has rosemary in, so I'll start there :)

What's going on with bro? Can have a good chin-wag on Saturday, see if we can mutually put the world to rights or at least get things off our chests **hugs**

Have you tried a goats milk rinse on your scalp? Zak used to get really bad eczema on his face when he was little. I used a goats milk cream which was meant for eczema and psoriasis. Worked a treat I swore by it and wouldn't use anything else.

Wish I could use a booby milk rinse - would save some time :) Especially if it were more effective semi-digested :s

Bro and I is just a case of me having a moment of clarity and seeing where most of the effort and care in the relationship come from. As it seems to be me, I'm having a bit of a pouty fit :P Would be nice to have a natter xxx

Yeah boobie milk...I reckon you could be on to a winner there. Seriously, if it were me I'd try it at least once :D

Pouty fit sounds entirely justified **hugs**

Looking forward to seeing you Saturday...we can leave the boys to talk tanks or something, and sneak off for a tea and sympathy half hour :)

...tho my problem was not as severe as yours - just recurring dandruff and itchiness. But usually only during the winter months when the air is a lot drier. Special shampoos never helped significantly for me either, though I hadn't tried all that many. Instead, for the hell of it, I decided to lather in aloe vera gel (same stuff you'd use for sunburn, tho' without alcohol or that artificial green coloration) into my scalp after washing. Solved the itchiness and dandruff, until a next wash. I figure aloe is supposed to have skin healing properties, so why not. Then again, I'm also buzzed to near baldness so gunking up my hair is a non-issue. Still, just my 2 cents. Take from it what you will.

And as for ur situation, not just simple - but cheaper too! :D

I guess the shower just doesn't rinse properly and I'd built up an allergy to the unrinsed remains.

But it is odd. Shower water and tap water I'm sure come from the same well or reservoir, right? Maybe something in the pipes, then, leading to the shower head? Tho' ur theory sounds good too (and more probable), and means less hassle if it's only the replacement of a shower head. ;)
