basically a more English, less gay William Burroughs (*). Former = ++, latter = +-

* = next day, sober edit. Alarm bells were ringing when I couldn't tell if the comments were ironic. No more drunk-reviewing...

Gibson, gay? Not something I'd ever considered before.

Yeah, I don't think I've ever considered that guy's sexual orientation.

ok, less homosexual sex content maybe. Or maybe it's just the Gibson that I read that I remember :) That's just what jumped out at me - Ballard's sex was more hetero, but dealt with on a similar visceral level to Gibson. Although it wasn't nearly as interesting as it all being set around Heathrow. I liked that.

I've just never thought about Gibson's writing (or indeed Gibson) as having any sexuality at all. Isn't that a bit old school? Gibson's characters just didn't seem that interested, they were too busy stealing 2GB of RAM (Oh, how we laughed at the hugeness) and updating their FaceDecks or whatever they are. Wasn't Gibson contemporaneous with the first AIDS-panic, when the Western world just gave up on sex and turned into dancing pill-muppets instead?

I've just bought my son The Manga Guide to Statistics, which he will still ignore in favour of fiddling with his phonepod (as is the teenage way). Clearly we are now Living In The Future (and we must get you and JH-R together again soon), but it's turning out to be more Vance Packard, less Blade Runner and the only thing the Tyrell Corporation make are over-fried, over-priced crisps.

Burroughs OTOH...

and Burroughs would have been the William I meant. Never post at 11pm on your phone after two large gins.

The future has way too few amigas and way too much paperwork, if indeed we are there

Well if it's Burroughs you want, you need to be talking to [livejournal.com profile] jarkman. At the weekend he bought an old portable typewriter and he already has a machine that makes sets of crawling insectoid robot legs...

how big can he make those legs? Just out of interest, ya know :) And have I met Jarkman?

tyrell crisps are vile. And contain powdered dead animal. Those are probably linked, but I was mostly outraged by the powdered Salmon.

Tbh, I can't tell if comments are ironic either, and when you said 'gay' I just thought you meant gay as in gay meaning 'a bit crap'...not gay as reference to sexual orientation :D And I haven't touched a drop! Hehe...
