Jan. 19th, 2004 12:55 pmWell hurray for me - I've found out how to change the font size in my browser window. Or more specifically, I've found out how to shrink it again after I accidentally held down CTRL+mouse-wheel.
I already posted about the main event of the weekend - moving Mum. She seems very happy, sorting out photos and pootling around the flat. WEll, other than my bro phoning her at 4am to complain about his GF stalking out on him *shakes head*. She'll be right back (or at least I hope so!), but I can't say I blame her - he won't let her have any friends :(
Anyway, more pertinently, I also sorted my mom out with a washing machine, which will help my bro and I when we're caring for her and means I won't have any urgent need to replace mine when it conks out. I also yoinked her a free bedside table - someone was throwing it out at the tip, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it.
Despite extreme business, I watched a lot of movies - Shrek on Friday night, Dracula on Saturday and Lost in Translation on Sunday afternoon. That last one was pretty good - I liked the feeling of strangeness and slight dissociation, which tied in well with the characters' insomnia. The photography was neat too, and made me really want to visit Tokyo. A lot of people complained about the lack of resolution, but I quite enjoyed the idea that it didn't need resolution, but that two people could just enjoy a week's "maybe a bit more than friendship", and be enriched by that without having to make a big thing out of it.
EDIT: Ooo - I also finished clearing out my bathroom. Complete with new non-rotting floor/hand-made bath panel. Busy, busy, busy...

Date: 2004-01-19 05:38 am (UTC)Yeah, that sucks. I've been so annoyed by that myself.
he won't let her have any friends :(
That idea has always pissed me off. Its stupid. No relationship will survive if either party has no life outside the relationship. If I'm dating someone she should have people she can go hang out with without me and I should have people I go hand out with without her. Course I also believe in each person should have their own savings so I probably go a little overboard the other direction, but hey.
insomnia.
Insmonia is just so much fun. I slept all of about 5 hours combined Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night. Was quite annoying since I had to work Friday and Saturday...

Date: 2004-01-19 07:09 am (UTC)*nods* I keep telling him that...I wish he'd listen. They are quite an intense couple though - two years together and they won't yet be separated even to go to the bathroom :( I've tried suggesting that he got some time on his own and that he didn't push her into the arms of someone else, but he just gets angry. Problem is, he's only really got my parents as a role model, and they've always encouraged that sort of thing as beign a sign of "true love". Like, I could never even visit for the day without my BF but they'd think we'd argued.

Nothing wrong with that - it can save a lot of arguments and hassle. Personally I believe in the communist system of joint financial management, but I've always been lucky...

Isn't it just? I can't decide which I like more - the constant slight nausea, the extreme crankiness or the feeling of total alienation :P

Date: 2004-01-19 07:57 am (UTC)Turns out that Shift+Wheel down = back, and Shift+Wheel up = Forward. That confused and annoyed me for quite a while...

Date: 2004-01-19 03:57 pm (UTC)Heh. Anyone I go out with *needs* to have other friends and interests. As lovely as she might be, I can't imagine the claustrophobia of trying to be together every single moment...and I'm sure *I'm* unbearable without signifigant breaks ;)
Was the Dracula the 'Bram Stoker's Dracula' directed by Coppola? I think that one made my head hurt...

Date: 2004-01-20 12:22 pm (UTC)I'm of exactly the same opinion. About myself, obviously :D I think anyone would be annoying if you spent 24/7 with them, and introverts must find it particulalry frustrating. Like you, I need significant alone time to even function, let alone be a good girlfriend :)
And yeah, the Coppola version. It was a bit hectic, although I kind of like it.
