Watched Equilibrium and rather liked it. In fact, I rather liked a rather a lot of it rather more than I rather liked rather a lot of the Matrix :)

I liked the way that you needed sense, emotion AND logic to win - very post-Homeric classicism ;) Seriously, I enjoyed some of the ideas and was particularly hooked by the ambiguity between feeling sensations and feeling emotions.

Although I think Neo's going to be pissed when he sees what Christian Bale did to his coat...

You'd definitely like this film then - it had Sean Bean in too! And yeah, Christian Bale is cool :)

Ooooh.

Hapy film.

Is this out on DVD, perchance?

Yes, it was released direct-to-video/DVD. Never played in theaters. :/

That wold be why I'd never heard of it.

Wonder what the odds are of finding it in the rental place here?

Odds are very good. It wasn't released in theaters, however it is amazingly well-known. Word-of-mouth must have worked, cause it has 10000 votes on IMDb.

Hope so :) The rental place up here (despite being called 'Jumbo Video') is tiny, though.

I'll check it out after I get back from SJ.

Yeah - true. It's in my local store, and in the Blockbusters near my brother. And I always find that Blockbusters have way less than you think :) I was lucky as I caught it on pay-per-view. Someone doing their scheduling must have some actual taste (!), cos that'w where I caught "Waking Life" too.

Wait, you have Blockbusters in the UK? Holy fuck. And here I though it was the end of the world because Blockbusters crossed the border into Canada.

Meh - unfortunately so. They're completely crap for anything other than "Four Weddings and a Funeral", imo, and they push out the smaller but better video shops. But yeah - we're slowly being swamped too - my hometown got a McD recently, which I thought would never happen, and the town I live in now just got redesigned around the new one. Plus we have our own monopolies, like Tesco and Granada :(

Didn't think I'd seen at the theatres... pity, I might have watched it then!

So it's actually a decent film? Might have to invest in a copy :)

Definitely! Very good movie.

I'm always a bit wary about films that look like derivative attempts to cash in (in this case, on the Matrix), esp. when they go straight to video..

But it sunds much better than the last two Matrix films, so will give it a try :)

Yeah - that's one reason I'd been avoiding it for ages, until [livejournal.com profile] unsane1 recommended it somewhere as being quite good. Here and there, the special effects are a little klunky, but personally I don't regard that as too bad a thing.

Yeah - I liked it. As I said above somewhere, it's in the Blockbusters in Stroud, so you'll certainly be able to find it somewhere in Brum, I'd imagine.
