Didn't sleep well last night, but when I did, I had the oddest dream:

I was on a train to Bristol that was for some reason going via Cheltenham. I got off the train to change at Cheltenham and looked down at my feet to discover my sandals were missing. This is a recurring theme in my dreams - I leave my sandals somewhere almost every time. Only this time, I'd decided in advance to lose my shoes. Then I ran back to the train to get them, but as the train was already pulling away I jumped out through the ceiling. I'd missed my connection and knew I had to wait for hours in Cheltenham. As I was bored, I decided to go and find one of my LJ-friends (who I'd conveniently wished lived in Cheltenham) and go clubbing. Which was great fun, but I missed the last train.

So I was wandering around Cheltenham. But I was stuck in a sort of pedestrian square, surrounded by inky black nothingness. It was kind of floating in the air on a big pillar. I decided I wanted to speak to my cousin, and she appeared, sitting on a bench with a rucksack. She was leaving her current life to travel around the world, and I decided to go with her so that I could find my dad. I'd been sitting on this huge stone bench for ages waiting for him, and he hadn't turned up. I left my cousin waiting there so that I could tell my friend that I was off to find dad, but it just kept getting darker and more confusing in the back streets of Cheltenham.

Then I woke up. The dream itself was almost normal - just a jumble of things, many of which I can identify from things on my mind at the moment. But I got a bit wigged by the missing sandals (AGAIN!), and by having to hunt for my dad. But I was almost steering the dream - I seemed to be consciously thinking "I'll do this", and it would happen.

That sounds very much like a lucid dream, did you know you were dreaming?

Not explicitly, although I was consciously "playing god" at several points - by going back for my sandals, by importing a specific friend to go clubbing with, and by meeting with my cousin.

Some bits are easily traced to the past week, some are obvious psychological yearnings. Not sure why the missing sandals keep recurring :)

Cool, you have very good control in dreams then. If/when you go lucid, you're in for a wild ride! :)

lol yah. I don't think I've _ever_ noticed my shoes during dreams. Although I don't think I've ever noticed any of my clothes at all for that matter. I imagine myself as more of a wandering mind with eyes+ears in my dreams it seems, based on the fact that I never really look down at my feet or in a mirror or anything, that's the way it feels.
