The mule climbed over the mountain
Aug. 4th, 2008 09:08 pmFantastic weekend just gone. Friday, I drove to the Brecon Beacons, checked into a spiffy hotel, then did a solo mission up Pen Y Fan. Managed to do about 8.5 miles in 3 hours, including some very cool fell running most of the way down. Ascent was via Corn Ddu - freakishly windy and occasional showers, with the crescent shaped double-peaked summit wreathed in billowing cloud. Luckily it cleared at the last minute for an exhilarating belt across the top. Mucho fun, and a big sense of achievement - pictures will follow.
Then spent the night and next morning chilling in the spa hotel - swimming, running, doing yoga, and eating nyummy food.
Sunday, I donned my walking boots again (ouch... blisters... note to self not to wear those chunky hiking socks) and went walking on Cleeve Common. Got slightly lost, but that then ensured an extra couple of miles of trekking through untouched high wold meadowlands, which was a total pleasure. Also got a chance to take in Belas Knap. Again, ate well, and resolved to do more of that damn walking thing.
