The first positive thing I'm going to do today is block someone's email address. Someone's pulling my strings online. Like I need a parental replacement to tell me how crap I am! So instead of just taking their negativity on myself and struggling not to believe their unpleasant accusations, I'm just going to block the address. Full stop. End of story.

Repeat to self: I am not shallow, hedonistic, ugly, hysterical or stupid :P

LATE UPDATE: 1100 words down on virtual paper for my essay. I'm sure you're all really interested ;)

You don't need people like that in your life, problem is it's a lot easier to believe criticism than compliments :/

This is a subject that totally fascinates me - some people are naturally confident, believe compliments and go around thinking they're great. A few people are "true neutrals" and don't really take much notice of anything, and the rest of us tend to believe the worst. I've spent a long time learning about psychology and personality type, but I often think it must be down to something in our upbringing.

It's down to self image sometimes. If you think you're gods gift then compliments will just reinforce that. If you don't think you are then criticism will reinforce that.

Mmm - I definitely agree with you on the self-image bit. I guess I was just wondering about all the factors that influence our self-image as we grow up...

Put it this way school can be a big popularity contest sometimes. You had all the hard case popular types, I'm sure the teachers noticed these types when it came to sport since they would often be the captain of the team and would select the team. I often found myself close to being the last picked, probably since I was never into football.

Yes - that makes sense, as it was when I started school that I noticed that I was "a bit weird" or "didn't fit in". And I guess at that age you're still impressionable and forming your character.

And yeah, I was always picked last for netball teams :P School sport was so dull.
