Been on a break from running, in that I haven't run since Thursday, and I won't be running until tomorrow. I've been really enjoying it recently; sort of achieved a new plateau in fitness (well, a mini plateau for the rest of the world, but a definite improvement for me) and happily starting to embrace some of the ideas around meditational running and Chi Running. I actually think I was mostly there anyway, but validation is aways nice.

In short, there was nothing wrong and everything right about running. Which in my philosophy book is the perfect time to take a break, do some yoga and let my knees and ankles take a well-earned break. Even though I miss the endorphins :(

Anyway, while not-running, I realised how much I missed yoga. I also took several warm baths and went to Minehead for the first time ever, which was really a far better experience than I would ever have predicted. The child was, however, a bit of a pest, so the mission to take him away on my own has been aborted. Sometimes you just need to be gentle with yourself :)

*heh* J really wants to learn a martial art and we live over the road from a community centre. On a Thursday night there is a kung fu class and I'm in need of some exercise so I thought we might do it together. I took him over last Thursday for the first time and it was cancelled. He has, however, been making 'yeeeeaaaauuu' kung fu noises and jumping out with razor-sharp chopping hands ever since. I dread putting him in front of the instructor in case he completely insults the guy with his disrepectful kung-fu panda moves.

Yeah - martial arts instructors can be a bit touchy. My brother went through that phase. Being his sister, I could just kick him in the balls every time he karate chopped me, and he soon left me alone. My mum had a far more difficult time with it.

B's just learned how to combine the recent skills of "contrary" and "whining". I nearly dumped him on the hard shoulder of the M5 on the way home.

I'm really getting into QiGong at the moment. Hope to extend that to Yoga over the next few months too :) Went back to running yesterday after a 3 week break. Wasn't too bad though could only do half the distance which was a bit disappointing.

Only tried QiGong once. It sounds like a Jedi name :) Can safely say that an hour spent doing yoga has always been more useful for my health than any other exercise. How do you fit it all in, hon? I seriously have no more spare time.

I can see that would be disappointing, babe *hugs* What sort of distance have you dropped down to?

Well I was doing 2 miles (1 mile gently downhill, then back the other way gentle up hill - killer!) Monday, Wednesday, then nearly 3miles on a Friday if I was feeling ok for it...that's the run that goes through the estate, then back cross country over the hills back to the house. I managed 1 mile on Monday - so that's 1/2 mile downhill, 1/2 mile up hill. I guess I could have pushed myself to do the same run as before the holiday but didn't want to push it. I was really disappointed, but today i'm feeling a bit more philosophical about it. I promised myself I wasn't going to get hung up on this kind of thing after coming back from Greece, so if this is what I need to do for a couple few weeks to get back into it, so be it :)

I'm doing QiGiong on the days in-between running. Only takes about 20 minutes though the routine can be extended for much longer if desired. I'd really like to get into the yoga though - maybe a short routine after the QiGiong? Possibly, we shall see come the new year :)

Yeah - definitely don't push it. I could quack on about it being about the journey rather than the arrival, but you know that and it would make me feel sick anyway ;) The training plan I got from somewhere (I'll let you know when I remember) increased the mileage by about 10% a week, which seems to have worked for me. Once I've done this 10k, though, I'll probably just not bother about the miles any more. I want to make sure I can do that one without falling over, seeing as I'm committed already, but seem to have utterly lost interest in targets.

Can you teach me QiGong? I could find 20 minutes for it, I reckon. Can take you through the half hour yoga routine I do in the New Year, if you like :)
