Jan. 1st, 2004 09:44 pmI got a paid account! Felt like I should give something back and all that. Plus I fancied more user pics :) I think I probably have more codes that I'm happy to give away to people on my friends list for whatever purpose.

Date: 2004-01-02 05:35 am (UTC)Cool. Hope you enjoy it.
Eat less crisps, take more walks
More people in this city should take that advice. This is after all, the fattest city in the US (we recently passed Houston and New Orleans).
Find ways to be more productive
I'm trying to find ways to be less productive. I figure that way they'll pawn some of my duties at work off on someone else. That's how I got them afterall...
Grow more food
Good idea. Wouldn't attempt it myself since I killed the last plant I had... It was a cactus...
Become happier and more peaceful
Good one. Probably one of the hardest there is though. I wish you luck. Personally I don't really want to be happier (I'd settle for less extreme) and definitely not more peaceful (My goal is by the end of the year to be working and going to school full time, plus continue work on a few side projects).
Develop interesting ways of earning money
Another good goal. Not as much fun as finding interesting ways to spend money though...
Beautify my home and garden
I'd settle for getting my home back in one piece (needs some repairs) and get the pile of junk out of my back yard...
Destress my relationships
Now where's the fun in that? A relationship isn't worth keeping if it takes no work. The only relationship that takes no effort is family, and those are usually the most stressful!
All kidding aside, that's a good list of goals. Hope things work out for you in the new year.

Date: 2004-01-02 02:30 pm (UTC)Mmm - I see what you're saying. In a way I agree with you - less extreme would be the same as more happy to me. Ideally, keeping the happy amplitude and frequency, but reducing that of the gloom. Last year was a bit miserable though, so I want to improve from that as I have a tendency to get a bit stuck in a rut emotionally. And by peaceful I definitely meant less stressed rather than less busy! I wouldn't be happy if I weren't trying to do eight different projects at once :)

Date: 2004-01-02 07:23 pm (UTC)When I was in the US I only seemed to spot the huge crisp packets, not many or any of the small bags you get in the UK. I guess that doesn't help, once you've opened a big bag the temptation is there just to go back and have other few.

Date: 2004-01-02 07:37 pm (UTC)Well, true... Of course the real danger here is people like to eat fatty greasy tacos for breakfast (breakfast being 3 or 4 big dripping tacos, usually bean and cheese or chorizo and egg).

Date: 2004-01-03 03:04 pm (UTC)Yeah, but you see, I want to lose some weight. And as crisps form about 87% of my daily calorie intake, cutting them out would slim me down very fast. Or turn me into a ravening lunatic - depriving me of monsodium glutamate does not make for a pretty mule.
When are you moving into your new house?

Date: 2004-01-03 03:25 pm (UTC)I found American crisps disappointing - I was expecting exciting flavours spread out for my delectation in the land of plenty, but they were a bit lame. I think Americans all prefer beef jerky :p

Date: 2004-01-05 06:10 am (UTC)Over time if you keep giving yourself jolts of sugar then your body gets resistant to insulin and you can get diabetes. Of course you have to be really overdoing it and be rather overweight to get there.

I'm closest to Oats and Soy Milk as I have muesli. Nice to see how bad bacon and eggs is.

Date: 2004-01-05 07:21 am (UTC)So if you eat highly refined sugar your get a sudden jolt of energy, but to feel "normal" you need a fairly constant blood sugar level. Things like honey are better than sugar as it's a complex sugar.
The more natural the food the better really.

Date: 2004-01-05 07:23 am (UTC)Yeah - I've just switched from muesli to ready brek as I can't stand the milk on it. Does soy milk have a lot of calcium? I hate dairy products (both personally and ethically).
Nice to see how bad bacon and eggs is.
*bloink* I don't know how I ever used to eat stuff like that (OK, it's been over 15 years...)

Date: 2004-01-05 07:49 am (UTC)Many dairies are closing, probably due to the low profits thanks to the supermarkets.

Date: 2004-01-05 08:34 am (UTC)That makes sense - most junk food is padded out with simple sugars, so they pretty much dissolve straight into the bloodstream. I guess you must burn through them quickly too... I hate that feeling - I always get the cold sweats when my blood sugar is low :(
So I guess we're pretty much designed to eat natural food - more modern stuff isn't going to give us such a digestive workout. Did you ever read "milroy the magician" ... it's kind of neat :)

Date: 2004-01-05 01:17 pm (UTC)Heh, down here we usually get the guacamole or jalapeno flavors (along with the staples). I personally prefer plain, but...
I think Americans all prefer beef jerky
I certainly do. Beef of any kind is good (hey, I'm a texan, we're supposed to enjoy beef)...

Date: 2004-01-05 01:21 pm (UTC)You're not already?!?!? Ahhh, just shatter my preconceived notions that make no sense! The lunatics are the most entertaining people in the world!
The bible was mis-translated... It does not say the meek will inherit the earth, it says the LUNATICS will! At least my bible does. Wonder who took the pen to it...
Probably me in a drunken state...

Date: 2004-01-05 02:32 pm (UTC)Of course, around here cheese is an extra charge so no worries about getting cheese when you don't want one. There a couple places around here where you can go order a cheeseburger and they'll ask you if you want cheese on it. If you say no, you get a cheeseburger minus the cheese... Crazy...

Date: 2004-01-05 02:47 pm (UTC)Had some nice crisps over there made of different vegetables. Also some great chilli ones (although the novelty wore off after they died my mouth red :)). Guacamole sounds a bit grim though :s

Date: 2004-01-05 02:48 pm (UTC)I didn't know those bacon bits were fake - I assumed they were some sort of flaked bacon jerky or something. I might try some, as I like bacon crisps :)

Date: 2004-01-05 03:12 pm (UTC)Exactly! If I wanted that I'd order a hamburger, not a cheeseburger! Although I do know people who order cheeseburgers hold the cheese. Don't know why since it usually costs 35 cents more or so. Crazy people...
Random bits of bacon and ham are my personal bugbear...
I don't mind the bacon, as long as its a small amount. I get sick if I eat more than an ounce or two of anything that comes from a pig. Can't stand the taste of most of it anyway, particularly ham *bleh*

Date: 2004-01-05 03:18 pm (UTC)I'm definitely a chili person. I love to crumble up some cornbread in a bowl, toss some chili on top of it, mix in some grated chedder, colby, or provolone, and then scoop it onto tortillas to eat. mmmmmmmmmmmmm, chili...
I didn't know those bacon bits were fake
Ahhh, there's the rub... Some are real bacon, some aren't. At least over here. I by the good old generic brand which is most desidely fake. Safest bet is to look at the ingredient list. Failing that, or too lazy to, than just look at the color. The fake ones look quite fake. They are a monochrome clayish red color. The real ones will have a variety of color including red, brown, and black. Also the fake ones are very hard and stiff, while the real ones are jerky (and thus tough, but still give when you bite down).
Is it just me or am I starting to sound like a bacon bit expert... That's not a title I want....

Date: 2004-01-05 03:24 pm (UTC)Screech owls maybe, but everyone knows that barn owls were nothing less than silk and velvet! They are the Hugh Heffners of the owl world!
Re: I can imagine!
Date: 2004-01-07 07:18 am (UTC)I guess they think it makes them sound important... who knows? I don't eat meat at all, so any traces of ham/bacon/toenail tend to piss me off.

Date: 2004-01-07 07:19 am (UTC)*nods* I have a "super hot spice mix" that I add to most things to pep them up.

Heh - it's not just you ;) But everyone has to have SOME speciality :P
